About ICALLE

Since its launch in 2014, the Department of English and Applied Linguistics of De La Salle University, Manila has been successfully holding this event with the general objective of featuring presentations in the areas of applied linguistics and language education.

This was made possible through the participation of established scholars from local and foreign universities as well as parallel presentations that examine the role of language as well as other semiotic resources in a range of contexts.

Moreover, given that 21st century learners must be equipped with skills in communication technology, the conference hopes to be a venue where issues on language, globalization, and social issues are to be shared.

Participants are expected to:

  1. Explore current thinking in the discipline considering that semiotic resources dominate communicative events in an era of globalization;
  2. Discuss relevant issues on language education and applied linguistics in a range of contexts; and
  3. Establish meaningful networks for possible projects in the areas of applied linguistics and language education.

The conference convener for ICALLE 2020 is Dr. Rochelle Irene Lucas and the co-convener is Dr. Paolo Nino Valdez, both from the Department of English and Applied Linguistics, Brother Andrew Gonzalez FSC College of Education, De La Salle University, Manila.
